Q: What is Quaker Digital Academy?

A: QDA is an onlinepublic community school sponsored
by the New Philadelphia City School District.

Q: What diploma do you receive from Quaker Digital Academy?

A: A full high school diploma granted by the New
Philadelphia City School District through the QDA.

Q: Who can benefit from QDA?

A: Students who work or have other types of
responsibilities, need a different learning
environment, want to take courses not available at a
local school, or want to learn from home.

General Student Info

Q: Who can enroll in Quaker Digital Academy?

A: Residents of the state of Ohio who are at least 5
years old by August 1 and no older than 21 years old
at enrollment.

Q: How much does it cost to enroll in Quaker Digital Academy?

A: QDA is a public community school. Tuition is free
to students who residents of the state of Ohio.

Q: Are there any fees or expenses involved in QDA?

A: QDA does not charge tuition, however students
must provide consumables such as paper and ink
cartridges if a printer is necessary and provide a
phone line or cable connection. If your student meets
attendance and participation requirements, all or a
portion of the connectivity costs will be reimbursed at
the end of each semester.

Technology Requirements

Q: Are computer skills required to enroll in QDA?

A: Computer skills are not required; however, basic
computer can make the transition to a distance
learning environment easier.

Q: How many computers will I receive if there are
multiple students in my home?

A: QDA will provide one computer for each QDA
student in the household.  

Q: Do I have to use the QDA computer?

A: No

Academic

Q: Do I have to log in everyday?

A: You are required to log on 5 days of each
academic week and you must adhere to a schedule of
completion of work developed by your teachers.

Q: How will I communicate with my teacher?

A: Teachers can be reached by email, discussion
boards, or forums.

Q: Can I graduate early?

A: All high school students will be required to carry a
minimum of 4 credits each semester. A student who
wishes to graduate early may do so by carrying more
credits each semester. Each student will work closely
with their guidance counselor to design this program.

Q: Am I required to take the Ohio proficiency test?

A: Yes, the state of Ohio requires all students to take
the Ohio Proficiency Test.

Q: Will I receive a diploma?

A: Yes, upon completion of all graduation
requirements students will receive a high school
diploma and can participate in the New Philadelphia
City Schools graduation ceremony.

Q: How many times a year will I have to report to a
school designated location?

A: Students will be required to attend proficiency test
sessions at a designated location.

Special Needs Students

Q: Can students with disabilities or special needs
enroll in QDA?

A: Only after our Special Education team reviews all
records to verify that we can indeed fairly service the student.

Q: How will my child’s needs be met?

A: Each child will work with a regular education
teacher, as well as a special needs teacher in his/her
age-appropriate grade level. The child’s needs will be
met according to the Individualized Education Plan/
IEP. Service options may include regular classes
without modifications after a consultation with a
special needs teacher; regular class with
modifications from a special needs teacher;
individualized classes with part regular education
classes; or individualized classes.

Q: What is the process for identification of a child with
special needs?

A: If a child is having difficulty, the parent or teacher
may ask for a meeting with the Intervention Assistance
Team (IAT). The IAT will meet to discuss the needs of
the child, identify the problem and develop a plan of
intervention. Contingent to the outcomes of the plan,
the child may or may not proceed to the Multi-
factored Evaluation process, which includes further
testing by a team of professionals.

Q: Will assistive technology be provided?

A: Needs for assistive technology will be assessed and
reasonable accommodations will be made if
necessary.

Q: Will my special needs child be required to take the
Ohio Proficiency Test?

A: The decision to be tested will be based upon the
child’s IEP. However, standardized testing will be
encouraged.
